The England captain has become central to Bayern's plans since arriving from Tottenham Hotspur in 2023, and the German champions are keen to retain him beyond his current contract.
Kane was recently celebrated by teammates and supporters after winning the Ballon d'Or for the 2025-26 season. He was subsequently rested for Bayern's 6-1 German Cup victory over 1. FC Magdeburg, with the club prioritising his recovery ahead of Saturday's Bundesliga meeting with Borussia Dortmund.
Assistant coach Aaron Danks explained that the decision was straightforward after Kane had played extensively in recent weeks.
βI spoke to him. He has played a lot recently,β Danks said.
The striker's absence from the Magdeburg match did little to dampen the celebrations surrounding his individual achievement, with Bayern Munich supporters preparing to honour him again before the meeting with Dortmund.
Away from the pitch, negotiations over a new contract have been progressing for several months. Dreesen has indicated that both parties want to continue their relationship for as long as possible, although the final agreement has required detailed discussions involving Kane's representatives.
βOf course, there have been a lot of conversations with his father and brother Kane, and that is how it is now as well, but we know that we want to extend this situation for as long as possible,β Dreesen said.
The Bayern chief executive also explained why the announcement has taken longer than some supporters might have expected. The remaining work involves legal representatives exchanging and refining the contractual terms rather than reopening the main issues.
βIt simply takes a few days. It is normal when lawyers exchange the finer details. We had already discussed and negotiated all the important issues before the Ballon d'Or ceremony,β Dreesen said.
Reports have suggested that the negotiations include provisions relating to a possible return to the Premier League, as well as a potential matching right for Tottenham Hotspur. The precise terms of any such clauses have not been confirmed publicly.
Kane's current contract runs into 2027, meaning an extension would provide Bayern with greater certainty over the future of their leading striker. The club are reportedly targeting an agreement through to 2029, although the final terms and announcement date remain unconfirmed.
Kane's performances have strengthened Bayern's desire to retain him. His goalscoring record and leadership have made him one of the team's most influential players, while the Ballon d'Or recognition further underlines his standing in world football.
For Bayern, completing the extension would secure continuity in attack and provide a major boost as the club pursues domestic and European honours.
The negotiations appear to be progressing, but until the agreement is formally announced, the precise duration and contractual conditions remain subject to confirmation.
