Alessandro Bastoni's future at Inter has become genuinely uncertain after a turbulent few weeks that have left the 26-year-old isolated in Italian football and increasingly linked with a move to Barcelona.

The centre-back has been booed in away stadiums across Serie A since his red card in Italy's World Cup play-off defeat to Bosnia and Herzegovina, a moment that ended the Azzurri's tournament hopes. Last weekend, Inter manager Cristian Chivu substituted him at half-time during the 3-4 loss to Como, partly to protect a player carrying a knock but also to shield him from the hostility of the crowd at the Giuseppe Sinigaglia.

Gazzetta dello Sport reports that both Inter and Bastoni are beginning to consider parting ways at the end of the season rather than pursuing a contract extension, a significant shift in a situation that had previously pointed toward him staying.

Barcelona are closely monitoring developments. The Catalan club view Bastoni as the ideal profile to reinforce their central defence and believe his current circumstances in Italy could work in their favour during negotiations. Reports suggest Bastoni himself would prioritise a move to Camp Nou if he decides to leave.

The gap between the clubs remains the central obstacle. Inter's valuation sits at around โ‚ฌ65-70 million and they have already seen an initial offer in the region of โ‚ฌ45 million rejected. Barcelona are working on a proposal of around โ‚ฌ45-50 million plus add-ons, or a lower cash figure with a player included โ€” and believe room exists to find an agreement.

Chivu has refused to be drawn into speculation, while making clear his admiration for Bastoni's professionalism. "As long as he is here, he will give more than 100% for us," he said. "Whether it's for two months or two years, I can't condition his choices."

Inter, who are on course to win the Scudetto, have no financial pressure that would force a sale. The timing ultimately belongs to Bastoni โ€” and the decision he makes this summer will define the next chapter of one of European football's most quietly dominant defenders.
