The Deportivo La Coruna striker was operated on Thursday by renowned traumatologist Manuel Leyes at Madrid's Centro Olympia after suffering problems with the external meniscus of his right knee during Sunday's 1-1 draw with Betis. The club confirmed that the procedure was successful.
Aubameyang was discharged from hospital and returned to A Coruña to begin his recovery, with Deportivo stating that his progress will determine when he can resume training with the rest of the squad.
An exact recovery period has not been officially confirmed by the club. Reports have suggested he could be absent for around two months, while the original estimates surrounding the injury had suggested a shorter four-to-six-week period.
The injury is a significant setback for a Deportivo side that has relied heavily on the Gabon international since his arrival.
Aubameyang had made an outstanding start to the season, scoring five goals and providing two assists in his first seven league appearances.
His absence comes alongside that of Marc CasadĂł, who is expected to miss around three months after suffering a clavicle injury in the same match against Betis.
Despite his own setback, Aubameyang was confident Deportivo could cope without him when speaking after leaving hospital.
