Fabrizio Romano and AS reported that Atletico have sounded out Gomes's entourage, only to receive a firm rejection from Porto for now. The club signed the 20-year-old from São Paulo for €10 million in January 2025 and have no intention of letting him go cheaply. His release clause stands at €80 million.
Porto's calculation is straightforward: they want to maximise the fee by letting him play another full season and grow his profile further, just as they did with Luis Díaz — a comparison that has followed Gomes since his arrival in Portugal. Like Díaz, he operates best from the right flank at a left foot, combines pace with technique, and is a persistent threat in one-on-one situations.
His return of 13 goals and two assists across 46 appearances this season — including the Primeira Liga title under head coach Francesco Farioli — has put him firmly on European radars.
Atletico are not alone. Manchester United, Newcastle United, Arsenal and AS Roma have all sent representatives to Porto to watch him this season, though none have tabled a formal offer. Atletico are the only club to have made direct contact.
Gomes did not make Carlo Ancelotti's final Brazil squad for the World Cup this summer, though a delegation from the CBF — the Brazilian Football Confederation — travelled to Porto in the early months of 2026 specifically to watch him in action. Ancelotti has him on his longer-term radar, with the Copa América 2028 or the 2030 World Cup viewed as realistic timelines for a senior debut.
Whether Atletico Madrid return with a bid capable of triggering the release clause, or whether Porto manage to hold on until 2027, will be one of the defining questions of a summer in which Europe's biggest clubs are circling a player who cost a fraction of what any of them will need to pay.
