Vinícius Júnior gave serious consideration to joining Arsenal during the summer transfer window before deciding to remain at Real Madrid, according to senior figures at his agency.

The Brazilian winger was the subject of an aggressive approach from Arsenal while negotiations over a new deal at the Bernabéu were still unresolved. His representatives have now described how the Premier League club’s interest was strong enough to warrant consideration, even though the player ultimately wanted to stay in Spain.

Michael Yormark, president of Roc Nation Sports International, told SportsBoom that Arsenal had made their intentions clear.

“You saw the news; Arsenal was very involved. They were very aggressive,” Yormark said.

He acknowledged that the prospect of joining a club making such a determined effort could not simply be dismissed.

“Did he ever seriously consider Arsenal? I mean of course. When a team like Arsenal rolls out the red carpet for you and makes you feel really wanted, then obviously you have to listen.”

However, Yormark said Vinícius’s attachment to Madrid was decisive.

“But Vini’s heart is in Madrid, that’s where he’s always wanted to be, and that’s where he is, and that’s where he hopes to be for the rest of his career.”

Vinícius eventually agreed a contract extension with Real Madrid in August, committing his future to the club until June 2032. The agreement ended months of uncertainty over a deal that had been approaching its final year.

Grant Veitch, a director at Roc Nation Sports International, also pointed to the forward’s long association with Madrid and his ambition to keep collecting trophies there.

“There were other opportunities that arose for Vinicius to leave in the summer,” Veitch said. “But I think the level of comfort he has, and him already being a star at Real Madrid, it kept him there, and he wanted to stay.”

Vinícius joined Madrid as an 18-year-old in 2018 and has grown into one of the club’s leading attacking players. Veitch said the chance to spend an entire professional career at one club would be particularly meaningful.

“It’s not often that an athlete gets to start their professional journey at one team, and end it there as well. He started his journey at 18, he’s 26 now. He’s already won so many trophies. To be at one club, the best club in the world, for your entire career, that would be very special.”

The representatives’ account offers a clearer explanation of why Arsenal’s pursuit did not lead to a transfer. The interest was real, but Vinícius ultimately chose continuity at Real Madrid over a move to the Premier League.
