Arsenal are exploring a cut-price move for Aston Villa winger Morgan Rogers after the Midlands club lowered their asking price to around £80 million, with Mikel Arteta keen to upgrade his left-wing options.

Aston Villa have reportedly lowered their asking price for Rogers as speculation over the winger's future intensifies, with Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta making a new left winger his top priority this summer.

Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard both endured long goal droughts last season, leaving head coach Mikel Arteta convinced his options in that position need a significant upgrade. Arteta is known to be a big admirer of Rogers and would consider him his dream signing.

Villa's difficult financial position, driven in part by spending on wages and transfer fees that has outpaced revenue, is reported to have opened the door to a sale.

It had previously been suggested that Villa would demand a fee in excess of the £100m Manchester City paid for Jack Grealish in 2021, but Sky Sports report that a figure closer to £80m could now be enough to tempt the Midlands club into a deal.

Villa are said to have accepted they have little leverage to keep hold of Rogers, even after a fourth-placed finish last season secured a return to the Champions League.

Chelsea and Manchester United are also reported to be monitoring the situation, though Sky Sports insist no formal talks have yet taken place between Arsenal and Villa. The broader expectation is that little progress will be made until England's World Cup campaign concludes.

Standard Sport understands Arsenal have also placed Bournemouth's Eli Junior Kroupi on their shortlist following his impressive first season in England. Bournemouth's position on the Frenchman, however, is considerably firmer than Villa's stance on Rogers, with the south coast club regarding Kroupi as not for sale.

Rogers has established himself as one of the Premier League's most exciting young attacking players since his move to Villa Park, with his combination of pace, directness and end product making him a genuine alternative to both Martinelli and Trossard in Arteta's eyes.

Should Arsenal complete a deal at the reduced figure now being discussed, it would represent a significant outlay even at the lower end of Villa's revised valuation, reflecting the scale of importance Arteta places on resolving his left-wing options before the new season begins.
