Carlo Ancelotti is on the verge of committing his future to Brazil through the 2030 World Cup.

Only the formality of his signature is standing between the Italian and a four-year extension that will make him the highest-paid national team coach in the country's history.

The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) sent the final contract draft to Ancelotti this week, and according to ESPN Brasil, the legal review by his lawyers is considered a formality. CBF president Samir Xaud confirmed the deal is all but done.

"We discussed it thoroughly β€” we talked before leaving Brazil, we spoke in person, and we agreed that when we returned from the FIFA international break we would sign the contract for another period," Xaud said.

Ancelotti, 65, took charge of the Seleção in May 2025 after leaving Real Madrid, initially signed until the 2026 World Cup. He has since compiled a record of 14 wins, 10 draws and nine defeats. The extension will run until 2030, though it is structured in two phases — an initial two-year deal with an automatic renewal clause covering the following two years through to the next World Cup.

His salary stays at €10 million per year, a record for any Brazil head coach. The Italian was characteristically relaxed about the process. "When a couple wants to carry on, I think there's no problem," he said at a CBF press conference. "Either before or after the next World Cup, we will make this extension official." He added with a smile: "Extending before the World Cup will be cheaper β€” afterwards it will be more expensive."

The news ends any speculation linking Ancelotti with the vacant Italy job following Gennaro Gattuso's weekend departure, with Antonio Conte and Massimiliano Allegri now considered the frontrunners in Rome.

Ancelotti is currently in Vancouver and is expected to sign remotely before returning to Brazil at the end of April.
