Amorim has been confirmed as new head coach on a four-year contract, with Gerry Cardinale restructuring the club's leadership entirely around the Portuguese manager as the Rossoneri begin the process of rebuilding after missing out on Champions League qualification.
Cardinale described the appointment in clear terms: "He is one of the most prepared and innovative coaches of the new European generation — young, ambitious, with a clear footballing identity and a well-defined tactical approach.
"Rúben believes in offensive, high-intensity football. His philosophy blends perfectly with our vision."
The previous regime at AC Milan has been cleared out entirely. Massimiliano Allegri was dismissed, along with sporting director Igli Tare, technical director Geoffrey Moncada and CEO Giorgio Furlani, following a final-day defeat to Cagliari that cost the club a Champions League place.
A new management pyramid is being assembled. Massimo Calvelli has been named chief executive officer. Hendrik Almstadt will serve as Director Player Trading — a sporting director equivalent — with Bobby Gardiner as Director of Football Intelligence responsible for player identification and Donato Lomonte as head of scouting. In the youth setup, Jovan Kirovski continues as head of Milan Futuro and Vincenzo Vergine as head of the academy.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic retains influence as a consultant to Cardinale but will hold no formal hierarchical position, with Kirovski — described as Ibrahimovic's right-hand man — continuing to report to the youth structure.
The shadow of influential agent Jorge Mendes also looms over Milan's summer business, with Corriere dello Sport reporting that Mendes has been active at the club in recent seasons and that two of their early targets — Ramos of Paris Saint-Germain and Hjulmand of Sporting — represent combined expenditure of around €60 million.
Ramos is a player Milan explored last summer before ultimately signing Christopher Nkunku. An offer of around €40 million may be sufficient to prise him from PSG, according to reports, though the club are considering a loan with option to buy to ease the initial outlay. Hjulmand, the Sporting captain and Amorim's former player at the Portuguese club, has been identified as the midfield anchor — he also spent time in Serie A with Lecce before returning to Lisbon.
The agent's established relationship with the club is expected to ease negotiations on both fronts.
