Matteo Politano gave Napoli an immediate lead, scoring in the opening minute, only for Jens Petter Hauge to equalise for the Norwegian visitors in the 27th minute. Scott McTominay restored Napoli’s advantage before half-time, finishing a move involving Kevin De Bruyne.
Andreas Helmersen brought Bodø/Glimt level again in the 62nd minute. McTominay struck for a second time in the 75th, before an Odin Bjørtuft own goal appeared to settle the match. Sondre Fet scored in stoppage time to set up a tense finish, but Napoli held on.
Allegri welcomed the result while pointing to recurring problems in front of his own goal. Speaking after the match, he said: “The team did well and we had a lot of shots on goal. Perhaps the only match in which we shot less was the one in Genoa. This means we need to improve our conversion rate.”
He added that Napoli had been allowing opponents to play through the lines too easily, particularly when they approached the defensive area.
“One thing is certain: the first line is being bypassed too easily and we have to work on the passing lanes. We need to improve, because it allows defenders to face cleaner balls. The whole team must work better on passing trajectories.”
Allegri also praised his players’ commitment, while noting that Frank Anguissa and McTominay should improve further as they regain match fitness. He said the group had quality but needed to learn from recent setbacks and improve its defensive organisation.
Bodø/Glimt coach Kjetil Knutsen believed his team’s slow start proved costly, although he was encouraged by its response. He said the opening 25 minutes had been below the required level, with his players lacking energy, but they grew into the contest and fought back to 2-2.
“We became more offensive, looked for and found the 2-2, and that also helped us mentally, allowing us to start playing differently,” Knutsen said, speaking to TuttoNapoli.
The Norwegian coach felt Bodø/Glimt had opportunities to take the lead before McTominay’s second goal changed the direction of the game. He accepted responsibility for selecting Sjøvold, who was involved in the build-up to Napoli’s third, and said his side must find a better balance between attacking ambition and defensive protection.
Knutsen also credited Napoli’s quality and timing, arguing that the hosts used their energy at the decisive moments. For Allegri, the three points offered relief, but the performance left clear issues to address before the next European test.
