Agent pressure as Man United face Diego León loan decision in January

Diego León’s agent says Manchester United must offer the young defender a route into the first team by January or the Paraguay international could seek a loan move.

Renato Bittar told Paraguayan outlet ABC Deportes that the 19-year-old wants clarity on Manchester United’s plans between December and January. León has yet to make his first-team debut since arriving from Cerro Porteño in July 2025, despite continuing to feature for the club’s Under-21s.

“If there isn’t a plan to break into the first team between December and January, we’ll look for a way out for him,” Bittar said. “A loan somewhere where he can compete, get playing time, and return to Manchester.”

The agent made clear that a temporary move would be intended to help León develop rather than end his time at Old Trafford. He also indicated that remaining in England would be one option, although other European leagues could be considered.

“The Championship is an option, as are other European leagues, but we don’t want to leave here,” Bittar said. “He’s performing well with the U21 team, he’s training well, and his physical condition is excellent.”

León arrived in Manchester after making 33 senior appearances for Cerro Porteño in Paraguay. His performances there attracted United’s interest, and he made 20 appearances for the club’s Under-21s last season as he adjusted to a new environment.

The left-back’s lack of senior opportunities has become more notable with Luke Shaw and Patrick Dorgu unavailable through injury. However, United have other options capable of covering the position, and the club has not yet confirmed whether León will be promoted or sent out on loan.

In March, the Paraguay international spoke of his ambition to establish himself at Old Trafford, saying one of his dreams was to make his country proud and become a Manchester United legend. That goal remains possible, but regular first-team football is likely to be central to his progress.

Bittar’s comments place the decision with United. If the club believes León is ready to compete for a place, he could remain and attempt to break through. If not, a loan could provide the senior minutes that have so far been unavailable.

No move has been agreed, and the agent’s remarks do not amount to a formal transfer request. They do, however, make clear that León’s representatives want a concrete development plan before the January window opens.
