AC Milan are chasing a playmaker, defender and wing-back for Ruben Amorim, while the head coach confirmed Luka Modric remains central to his plans.

Kerim Alajbegovic, Konstantinos Karetsas and Arthur Atta are the leading names under consideration for the attacking role.

Handing Amorim a competitive squad before pre-season is the priority for the club's hierarchy, though the Portuguese head coach has urged patience given the number of loan returns, potential departures and incoming deals still to be resolved.

The search for a playmaker or inverted winger capable of beating a man has taken on added urgency amid the growing likelihood that Rafael Leao leaves Milanello this summer, with the profile sought young, technical and comfortable in one-on-one situations.

Alajbegovic, on loan at Salzburg last season before returning to parent club Bayer Leverkusen, has drawn praise from Zlatan Ibrahimovic for his personality and courage, and is valued at more than €30m.

Karetsas, an 18-year-old at Genk rated among Belgian football's brightest talents, provided 18 assists last season and would cost AC Milan in the region of €40m. Atta, whose versatility and ability to operate between the lines has impressed Amorim, has also emerged as an option after Udinese director Gianluca Nani visited Casa Milan, with the Frenchman valued between €35m and €40m.

Milan's business will not stop in attack. The club continue to monitor central defensive options in Goncalo Inacio and Antonio Silva, as well as a right-sided wing-back, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, with the aim of delivering as complete a squad as possible before the first weeks of pre-season training.

Amorim also used his first press conference to address Luka Modric's future, making clear the 40-year-old remains part of his plans.

"Modric is a player we want to keep. I've spoken to him twice, and if needed I'll speak to him again," he said.

"He's had excellent results, and I think he's a fundamental point for us, especially at the start.

"I'm not saying he'll play every game, but we absolutely want to count on him for next season. The club has spoken to him too, and I hope to have him back in a few days after some rest."
