According to The Telegraph, Palace are considering their options after Sunday’s 2-0 home defeat to Newcastle United increased the pressure on Sage. The Frenchman remains in charge for now, but the result has intensified scrutiny of his position.
Palace have collected seven points from their opening eight league matches and sit close to the relegation zone. Their defensive record has also become a concern, with the team struggling to find consistency under a manager appointed during the summer.
Sage arrived from Lens after Oliver Glasner left the club at the end of last season. Glasner had overseen a successful period at Selhurst Park, including the club’s Conference League triumph, and the transition to a new manager has so far brought mixed results.
Dyche is understood to be among the names under consideration if Palace decide a change is necessary. The former Nottingham Forest manager has been out of work since leaving the City Ground in February and could offer extensive experience of Premier League relegation battles.
His previous roles include lengthy spells at Burnley and Everton, as well as time at Watford and Nottingham Forest. At Burnley, Dyche secured promotion to the top flight twice and kept the club in the Premier League for six consecutive seasons, building a reputation for organising teams and maximising limited resources.
That background could appeal to Palace if they conclude that their current position requires a more experienced hand. The club’s recent results have placed Sage under pressure, although reports of possible replacements do not mean a decision to dismiss him has been made.
Other names have also been linked with the vacancy. Previous reports have mentioned Rob Edwards, Scott Parker, Kieran McKenna and Vítor Matos, while further coverage has identified Thomas Frank and Vítor Pereira as potential options.
Palace’s defeat to Newcastle followed a heavy loss to Brighton the previous weekend, leaving the club with little room for another poor result. The team have conceded heavily during the opening weeks of the campaign and must improve quickly if they are to avoid becoming embroiled in a relegation fight.
For now, Sage remains responsible for turning the situation around. Dyche’s reported emergence as a frontrunner signals that Palace may be assessing alternatives, but the club’s next steps remain uncertain.
