Roma have opened talks with Chelsea over a move for Alejandro Garnacho, with the Argentina winger firmly on Gian Piero Gasperini's radar as the Giallorossi continue searching for attacking reinforcements alongside their pursuit of Mason Greenwood.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Roma have made their first approach to Chelsea for the 22-year-old, who the London club value at around €60million. Talks remain some way from advanced, with a clear gap between the two sides still to be closed.

AS Roma are pushing for a loan with an option to buy, but Chelsea are reluctant to accept that structure, preferring a permanent sale or a loan with an obligation to buy instead. Without a rival offer emerging, though, Roma could yet prove to be Garnacho's most likely destination this summer.

With Greenwood increasingly set to join Fenerbahce, Roma have also turned their attention to Strasbourg winger Diego Moreira as an alternative, with Sky Sport reporting that the club have identified the Belgium international as a target after he was left on the bench for the full 90 minutes of his country's World Cup quarter-final exit to Spain under former Roma coach Rudi Garcia.

Roma have tabled an opening offer of €30million plus 10 per cent of any future sale for Moreira, but Strasbourg's initial asking price is understood to be as high as €50million, with agent Jorge Mendes working to narrow the gap between the two clubs.

Notably, Chelsea and Strasbourg share the same ownership group, BlueCo, meaning the London club retain influence over any deal for Moreira and hold their own option to bring the winger back to England, even though they are not currently thought to be planning to exercise it.

Roma's business this summer therefore runs through Chelsea on two separate fronts, with the outcome of the Garnacho talks potentially shaping how much room the club has left to manoeuvre on Moreira as their attacking rebuild continues.

Sporting director Tony D'Amico is also said to be weighing a cheaper loan structure for Garnacho worth €4-5million, paired with a conditional obligation to buy tied to appearances, in an attempt to bring the overall package closer to €35-40million and find common ground with Chelsea's valuation.
