Real Madrid left-back Álvaro Carreras has issued a public statement dismissing what he described as inaccurate and damaging insinuations about his professionalism.

Reports in Spain, first broken by journalist Látigo Serrano on Onda Cero, claimed that Rüdiger slapped Carreras during a heated argument in the dressing room at Valdebebas, with the incident said to have taken place between the 2-1 win over Alavés and the 1-1 draw with Real Betis.

The Athletic subsequently reported that Rüdiger apologised to his teammates and took the squad and their families out for lunch as a gesture of contrition.

The story was compounded on Sunday when, following Ferland Mendy's early injury at Espanyol, head coach Álvaro Arbeloa chose Fran García as the replacement ahead of Carreras — prompting the 23-year-old to laugh visibly on the bench. That moment circulated widely on social media and drew criticism over his attitude.

Carreras addressed both issues in a statement posted on his Instagram account late on Tuesday night.

"In recent days, certain insinuations and comments about me have emerged that do not correspond to reality. My commitment to this club and to the coaches I have had has been complete from the first day, and it will remain so. Since my return, I have always worked with the maximum professionalism, respect and dedication. I fought very hard to fulfil my dream of coming back home."

On the Rüdiger incident, he was measured but did not deny it took place.

"This is an isolated matter without relevance that has already been resolved. My relationship with the whole team is very good."

Rüdiger, who is out of contract at the end of the season, has reportedly been offered a one-year extension by the club. Carreras joined Real Madrid from Benfica in the summer of 2024 for around €50 million and has made 33 appearances this season, but has found himself behind both Mendy and García in the left-back pecking order for much of the campaign.

His statement came hours after Kylian Mbappé issued his own public response to separate reports of a confrontation with a member of Arbeloa's coaching staff during a training session.
