Jamal Musiala has returned to the training pitch at Bayern Munich after recovering from the muscle injury that forced him to leave Germany duty early.

The 23-year-old midfielder was back outside on Wednesday, according to Kicker, but his return remains at an early stage as he completed an individual session rather than training with the rest of the Bayern squad.

Musiala suffered the injury before Germany’s 1-1 draw with the Netherlands, ruling him out of the match and forcing him to surrender his place in the starting line-up to Nadiem Amiri.

The Bayern Munich player was diagnosed with a muscle fibre tear and subsequently returned to Munich to begin his recovery.

His latest training session represents a positive step, but there is currently no indication of when Musiala will be able to rejoin his team-mates for full training.

That timing will be important for Bayern because the club face a demanding schedule over the next month. The German champions are due to play nine matches during the coming four weeks, increasing the need for Vincent Kompany to have his key attacking players available.

Musiala has become an important part of Bayern’s plans since establishing himself as one of the club’s leading attacking midfielders. His ability to carry the ball and create opportunities makes his return particularly valuable during a congested period.

For now, however, Bayern will continue to manage his recovery rather than accelerate his return. Individual training allows Musiala to rebuild his fitness while the club assesses how his injured muscle responds.

The immediate target will be a gradual progression from individual work back into team training. Only once he is able to complete sessions with his colleagues will Bayern have a clearer indication of when he can return to competitive action.

Musiala’s early return to the training pitch therefore offers encouragement, but the club still have to wait before he can be considered fully recovered.

With nine matches scheduled in four weeks, Bayern will have to balance the importance of Musiala’s availability with the need to avoid rushing the 23-year-old back from injury.
