Guessand rejoined Palace on loan from Aston Villa this summer having spent the second half of last season on loan at Selhurst Park, during which time the Eagles won the Conference League, but minutes have proven far harder to come by since his return.
The Ivorian has now been left out of Palace's last two Premier League squads and was also omitted from the club's Europa League squad entirely, while head coach Pierre Sage has openly criticised his application in training after substituting him for an ineffective cameo against Manchester City.
Sage, who succeeded Oliver Glasner in the summer, has quickly built a reputation for blunt man-management, also dropping fellow summer arrival Dwight McNeil for Palace's first league win of the season away at Fulham last weekend.
"Sometimes players have to be shaken to come back and regain their level," Sage said when explaining his decision to leave both players out against Fulham.
Both attackers were subsequently in line to feature in this week's 3-0 Carabao Cup win over Middlesbrough, with Sage's public comments apparently intended as a wake-up call. McNeil took his chance, coming on for 15 minutes, but Guessand did not feature after reporting an injury during the warm-up.
Asked about the striker's continued absence ahead of Saturday's game against Ipswich Town, Sage said Guessand had not responded the way he had hoped.
"He hasn't responded at the level I expect," he said. "He mentioned he was injured at the end of the warm-up for the game on Tuesday, that's why he didn't go on the pitch. I have to speak to him because we need to find a solution. We need to see the best version of him."
According to the London Evening Standard, Guessand is still nursing the injury sustained in the warm-up before the Middlesbrough game but remains determined to prove himself at Palace, having turned down opportunities elsewhere in Europe over the summer to return to south London after enjoying his first spell at the club.
He is not currently contemplating a January move elsewhere, and while his relationship with Sage has been strained in the early weeks of the season, both parties are said to be working towards a resolution.
Palace host Ipswich looking for a third straight win in all competitions.
