Bruno Giordano believes Gennaro Gattuso has given Lazio a clear sense of purpose, praising the manager’s handling of the dressing room and the players’ desire to establish themselves as leading figures in the team.

Speaking to Radiosei, the former Lazio striker compared Gattuso’s ability to manage a group with the approach associated with Marcello Lippi. Giordano said the strongest coaches understand how to unite a squad around a shared objective, particularly when results begin to raise expectations.

“Many of those who were fortunate enough to be coached by Lippi now have that great ability to manage a group,” Giordano said, in comments reported by Lalaziosiamonoi.it.

He also highlighted the significance of Lazio’s performance in a high-profile match, arguing that victories against historically successful opponents can carry a different emotional weight from routine league wins.

“There are matches you dominate, but they taste different when you do it at the home of two or three clubs that have made history,” he said.

Giordano felt Gattuso had presented the game convincingly, drawing on his own experience as a former player who understood the demands of competing at the highest level.

The former striker was also confident that Lazio could maintain their intensity as the campaign progresses. He did not expect the squad to lose focus simply because of a positive run, pointing instead to concentration and the gradual implementation of Gattuso’s footballing ideas.

“Gattuso’s belief is about concentration, as well as the playing concepts he is putting on display,” Giordano said.

He acknowledged that defeats would eventually arrive, as they do for every team, but argued that the important question would be how Lazio responded when results became less favourable.

For Giordano, the players’ ambition has been central to the team’s progress. He said their desire to be protagonists had helped create the mentality required to build on positive results.

“Their desire to be protagonists has been fundamental. Now you’re in the game and you want to keep dancing,” he said.

Giordano also pointed to difficulties among some of Lazio’s rivals, naming Napoli, Atalanta and Juventus as teams that had shown signs of inconsistency. He cautioned that the season remained long and that those clubs possessed squads capable of recovering their form.

“Those teams have stronger squads, but I believe Lazio can maintain a very high level,” he said. “Now the others have to do something exceptional to make up the ground.”

His assessment offered encouragement for Gattuso while recognising that Lazio’s challenge will be to sustain their performances over the months ahead, rather than judge the campaign solely by its opening stretch.
