Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe says Nick Woltemade will earn more chances after impressing in the 1-0 defeat to Arsenal.

The Germany international has endured a frustrating spell for minutes despite arriving with a growing reputation, but caught the eye after coming off the bench at the Emirates.

Woltemade created a major chance for Yoane Wissa and offered a creative spark in a difficult game for Newcastle.

Howe praised the forward afterwards and hinted bigger opportunities could now follow.

“I thought Nick did really well today,” Howe said.

“Yoane and Nick both performed well when they came on. I thought both of our subs delivered a performance.

“Nick’s creativity for Yoane’s chance, that’s what he can do. He’s a very special talent in that respect.

“If Nick plays like he did today, he’ll get loads more minutes and opportunities to impress.”

Howe also explained Woltemade has had to wait behind in-form attackers.

“Our No.9s have been scoring, so unfortunately he has had to wait for his opportunity.”

With Newcastle pushing for a strong finish to the season, Woltemade may now be in line for a start against Brighton.
