Manchester City's win extended their perfect start to the Premier League season to six matches. The contest remained goalless until Liverpool midfielder Ryan Gravenberch was sent off in the 62nd minute, after which Erling Haaland, Doku and Rayan Cherki scored to secure the points.
Doku, who came off the bench and scored City's second goal, said the team had been prepared for the intensity of the occasion.
“Very happy, we know how tough it is to come here. From the start it was very intense — we're all happy to win the game,” he told BBC Sport.
“Coming to Anfield is always intense. I have always experienced intense games here, that's what we expected. Proud of my team, we dealt with it well.”
The winger's introduction gave City another attacking threat, and he made an immediate impact as the visitors took control after Gravenberch's dismissal.
Asked what manager Enzo Maresca had told him before he entered the pitch, Doku explained that the instructions were straightforward.
“He just told me where I was going to play, when you're on the bench you're looking for a way to impact the game and I did that.”
Doku was also reluctant to take personal credit for his goal, instead expressing gratitude for the ability that allows him to produce decisive moments.
“I don't want to take credit for this, there's someone higher than me that is giving me the ability to do these things,” he said.
On the controversy surrounding City away from the pitch, the Belgian kept his attention on the performance.
“I'm just here to talk about the game. We prepared well for the game, happy that we won.”
Anderson, meanwhile, was named Player of the Match after an influential midfield display. He said City's collective effort had been essential to navigating the challenge at Anfield.
“Togetherness, fight, a tough place to come and we stuck together and fought for each other. We've showed courage,” he told Sky Sports.
Anderson felt the atmosphere was particularly intense as the players arrived and during the opening stages, but believed City eventually managed to quieten the home crowd.
“It was more than normal, arriving into Anfield and the first 10 minutes of the game. We did well to quieten the crowd. Struggled first half but second we were better and then the goals came.”
He also welcomed the achievement of winning at Anfield, a ground where City face a demanding test whenever they visit.
“A good stat. It is tough, during the game you can feel it and it's a game you have to stick together more than ever,” Anderson said.
He added that he enjoyed playing amid the noise and pressure, describing the atmosphere as something that brought out the best in him.
“I just enjoy it. I enjoy the crowd, the noise, I thrive on it and that's when I come alive. It gives me confidence.”
