Bayern Munich have no current plans to pursue Florian Wirtz, despite the Liverpool midfielder attracting transfer speculation following a difficult start to life in the Premier League.

Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer has praised the Germany international’s ability but indicated that the Bundesliga champions are satisfied with their existing squad and will not be making a move for him at present.

Wirtz joined Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2025 in a deal worth an initial £100 million, with a further £16 million potentially payable in bonuses. The attacking midfielder produced seven goals and eight assists in 49 appearances during his debut campaign, but has faced scrutiny as he looks to reproduce the form that made him one of Europe’s most sought-after players.

He has registered two assists in eight appearances this season, according to the supplied figures, while reports have linked him with interest from Chelsea, Bayern, Real Madrid and Barcelona should he eventually leave Anfield.

Hainer was asked about Bayern’s interest and offered a sympathetic assessment of Wirtz’s situation.

“Florian Wirtz is an exceptional player. I almost feel a bit sorry for him, because he has not yet shown in England the level he was at in Leverkusen, because we also need him in the German national team,” Hainer said.

The Bayern president’s comments acknowledged the gap between Wirtz’s performances in Germany and his early experience in England, while emphasising the value he continues to offer his country.

However, admiration for the player does not mean Bayern are preparing a transfer. Hainer said the club were pleased with the strength of their current squad and made clear that signing Wirtz was not under consideration at this stage.

“We have such a top squad that we are incredibly happy at the moment, so this is not a topic for us right now,” he said.

Wirtz remains under a long-term contract with Liverpool until the summer of 2030, leaving the club in a strong position should any rival attempt to test their resolve.

For now, Bayern’s position is clear: Hainer considers Wirtz an outstanding player, but a return to Germany with the Munich club is not on their immediate agenda. The midfielder’s priority remains finding his best form at Liverpool and demonstrating the qualities that made him such a major signing.
